The basic age requirement for sheep and goats is one completed lunar year. The exception for sheep does not automatically apply to goats.
According to Diyanet’s minimum-age guidance, a sheep over six months old may be sacrificed if it looks as mature as a one-year-old. A goat looking large does not replace the age requirement. This distinction can be missed when all sheep and goat offerings use one general description.
Ask for available records instead of relying on an estimated age. Descriptions such as large or well-fed do not prove a birth date. The seller should explain how age was checked and report any discrepancy found before slaughter.
A remote buyer should not try to determine age from a photo alone. Ask the provider for clarification and decide once uncertainty is resolved. Linking species, age, identification and inspection details to the order is more useful than a record of price and package name alone. If in doubt, request expert inspection and religious advice.
